Romantic California Vacations

California honeymoons and romantic getaways

Whether you are planning your honeymoon or just a romantic weekend, California vacations are a wonderful option.

California literally has it all, from a breathtaking coastline and amazing beaches to to alpine ski slopes and gorgeous mountain lakes.

Of course, let's not forget San Francisco, one of the most romantic cities in the word. Then there is the gorgeous Napa Valley, with its world-class wineries, dining, and bed and breakfasts, along with incredibly quaint shops.

California Vacations - Big Sur

Big Sur Coastline

There really is no place else like California. You can go skiing in the morning, head to the beach for a late afternoon swim, then party until dawn a trendy Hollywood club - all in the same day!

Of course, if you are looking for seclusion and an utterly romantic location, you can find that in California too. Consider a renting cabin along the breathtaking Big Sur coastline or staying at a hotel along the shores of picture-perfect Lake Tahoe.

And if you are REALLY looking to get away from it all, you can go camping in Joshua Tree National Monument outside of Los Angeles or take a white water rafting trip in the High Sierra.

The list of romantic possibilities in California is really endless. If I had to pick the perfect California honeymoon, I would start with several nights in San Francisco, adding on day trips to the Napa Valley for a hot air balloon ride and to Marin County for a stroll amongst the redwoods of Muir Woods.

Finally, I would drive down the coast to a quaint bed and breakfast in Monterrey. from there I would visit the galleries and shops of Carmel and the dramatic coast of Big Sur before heading back to the Bay Area.

Lake Tahoe Vacation

Lake Tahoe

Of course, let's not forget San Diego, with its amazing weather, stunning coastline, wonderful attractions, and vibrant nightlife.

Perhaps the most romantic place to stay in all of San Diego is at the Hotel Del Coronado on Coronado Island just off downtown. With miles of sandy beaches, a quaint small-town setting, and great access to the stores, attractions, and clubs of downtown San Diego, the Hotel Del is a truly wonderful place for a honeymoon.

When in San Diego, don't miss out on my two favorite spots in town - the picturesque cove at La Jolla and the panoramic view from Point Loma, which provides perhaps the best vistas in all of Southern California!
